Track and Improve Your Habits

Habits are huge! Habits are a very large part of who we are, even if we aren’t really aware of them. After all, that’s what makes habits so useful in the first place.

Our habits automate much of what we do. This allows our brain to focus on other more important things. Even so, our habits still guide our actions, and our actions determine a lot of what happens to us throughout life.

Here are a few examples.

Example 1

If you have a well-developed habit of exercising every morning, you live a healthier lifestyle. This betters your mood, reduces your stress, and keeps you energized. On top of that, it gets you going early giving you a positive start to the day.

You might not think about it all that much, and it can be considered merely routine. Nonetheless, this one simple habit affects your health, affects your attitude, and affects your life, even if it’s just “part of the plan.”

Example 2

You have developed the habit of watching tik tok videos for several hours every night before going to bed.

On the surface, what’s the harm? It’s just a few hours. It helps you wind down. And you don’t really think about it.

Well…let’s take a closer look.

This simple habit may be keeping you up too late causing you to miss out on some much-needed sleep. Without enough sleep, you wake up tired and with so little energy, the next day is such a challenge. On top of all that, lack of sleep can cause mental and health problems too.

Even if you remove sleep from the equation, the hours and hours of tik tok videos accumulating over the weeks and months will certainly affect your attitude and perspective. Perhaps for the best, or perhaps for the worst.

Either way, the hours will slowly accumulate, and the subtle power of influence will slowly grab hold.

It might just be a simple habit, and you may not even think about it, but it affects your health, your mind, and your life nonetheless.

Ten Quotes on Habits

Every action you take is a vote for the person you wish to become.

Your habits shape your identity, and your identity shapes your habits.

Habits are the compound interest of self-improvement.

Changes that seem small and unimportant at first will compound and turn into remarkable results if you’re willing to stick with them for years.

We all deal with setbacks but in the long run the quality of our lives often depends on the quality of our habits.

With the same habits, you’ll end up with the same results. But with better habits, anything is possible.

The only way to make progress, the only choice I had, was to start small.

It is so easy to overestimate the importance of one defining moment and underestimate the value of making small improvements on a daily basis.

Improving by 1% isn’t particularly notable, sometimes it isn’t even noticeable, but it can be far more meaningful – especially in the long run.

A single decision is easy to dismiss, but when we repeat 1% errors day after day by replicating poor decisions, duplicating tiny mistakes, and rationalizing little excuses, our small choices compound into toxic results.
