The Paint Format Tool in Google Sheets

In this article, I will show you how to use the Paint Format tool in Google Sheets to copy formatting from one location to another.

What Is the Paint Format Tool?

The Paint Format tool is a command in Google Sheets that allows you to copy the formatting from one cell or range of cells and immediately apply that same formatting to another cell or range of cells of the same size.

For example, let’s say you have the following setup. The top range is formatted, but the bottom range has no formatting applied to it.

You can use the Paint Format tool to copy the formatting from the top range and apply it to the bottom range.

How to Use the Paint Format Tool?

Start by selecting the cell or range of cells with the formatting you want to copy.

Click on the Paint Format tool.

Select the top-left cell of the range where you want to apply the formatting.

Click once to apply the formatting.

You can then repeat this process to copy the formatting elsewhere.
