Ten Creative Spreadsheets for Life

I’m sure you can think of many uses for spreadsheets throughout your life. After all, they can be used for just about anything. However, just when you thought you were thinking outside the box, the box just got bigger.

What do I mean by that? I’m not quite sure, but I certainly hope it makes sense to you.

Anyway, today we are going to cover a few creative uses for spreadsheets throughout your life. Since there is so much that can be done, I thought it would be a great idea to highlight some of the unlikely uses that may not be commonly thought of.

Also, if you have any other ideas you think I missed and could have included, please let me know in the comments below. I absolutely love getting awesome new ideas from others!

Now without further ado, I present 10 creative uses for spreadsheets in life.

1 – Vacation Planning

I know what you’re thinking. Vacation? Spreadsheets? These two things definitely do not go together! Who could ever think of mixing the two?

Well, it actually may not be that bad of an idea.

Why? Because you can use a spreadsheet to easily plan and keep track of your budget, your hotel bookings, and even your packing list. Plus, having all of this information in one place will keep you more organized and stress free throughout your whole vacation!

After all, that is what a vacation is supposed to be – absolutely and completely stress free!

2 – Decision Analysis

Now that you have a way to organize your vacation, just where are you going to go for vacation anyway?

This can be a tough decision to make sometimes, but there really is no reason to worry. You can use a spreadsheet to make the entire decision process a whole lot easier.

You can list out all of your choices, rate them all by whatever criteria you can imagine, and finally make the best decision possible.

With the right workbook decision tool, you can have confidence and comfort in many of the tough decisions that lay ahead.

3 – Gift Planning

Speaking of decisions, sometimes it can be really hard to decide what gift to get someone. What can be even harder is planning out gifts for the whole family or even all of your friends.

Once again, a spreadsheet can help here too. You can create a wish list, a buy list, or any other gift list you can think of. And once that’s done, you can use your spreadsheet to sort, organize, or color code the entire list any color you can imagine.

Gift planning just got a whole lot easier!

4 – Family Tree

“But my family is huge. How am I supposed to keep track of everybody?”

You can use a spreadsheet!

You can actually create a fully functional family tree. I’m serious. Who needs Ancestry.com? (Although I hear that this website is really cool!)

You’ve got a spreadsheet, and with your mighty spreadsheet, you can create a magnificent family tree like that which has never been seen before!

5 – Chore Chart

You know what’s great about a big family? There are plenty of people around to help with all of the household chores!

At least, that’s how I imagine it would be. Nonetheless, you can use your handy dandy spreadsheet to coordinate everything in a pinch.

  • You can list out all of the chores
  • You can list out all of the people
  • And before you know it, you’ve got every chore covered

That sounds like a pretty good setup to me.

6 – Food Log

Doing all of those chores can certainly work up an appetite. And with all that eating, sometimes you might want to keep a food log.

Once again, you can use a spreadsheet!

You can log everything you eat. You can categorize everything however you want. And you can even draw up some fancy food and calorie statistics along the way too.

7 – Goal Tracker

Whether you are trying to lose weight or gain weight, you’ve got a clear goal ahead of you. And what better way to track your goals that with a spreadsheet?

If you have a goal to read 20 books in six months, you can track it with a spreadsheet.

If you want to save $400.00 this month, you can track it with a spreadsheet.

If you’ve got a goal, you can use a spreadsheet. And with your spreadsheet, you can hit that goal!

That sounds like a pretty powerful combination to me.

8 – Resumé Builder

Let’s say you have a goal to get that job you’ve always wanted. Do you know what would really come in handy? A resumé!

Did you know that you can build a resumé with a spreadsheet? You totally can!

Of course you can always use Microsoft Word, Google Docs, or another word processer instead, but never count out your spreadsheet.

Believe it or not, you can create an awesome resumé just as easily with your spreadsheet as well.

9 – Social Media Manager

Along with your resumé, I hear it is good to have a strong Linked-In profile. I also hear that job recruiters will check other forms of social media too.

So how do you keep track of all your connections, friends, posts, messages, and numbers to make sure that your social media is an awesome reflection of yourself? Well, you can use a spreadsheet.

You can monitor your social media growth, keep track of all your important metrics, and keep a clear picture of how you look to others online. That is the power of a spreadsheet!

10 – Event Selector

Now that you’ve checked the numbers, how do you decide what event to attend with all of those friends you have on Facebook?

I have an idea! You can use a spreadsheet to randomly select an event for you.

I’m serious. Just add a list of all your favorite upcoming events. Put together a few functions. And watch the magic as your spreadsheet tells you what the next big event will be.

In the end, whether you are going bowling, grabbing a bit to eat, or dropping by Disneyland, I hope you have an awesome, amazing, and super fun time!
