Manage Money With a Spreadsheet

There are TONS on apps, programs, and other tools out there that you can use to manage your money. It is truly astonishing how many options there are.

So just to add to the money management madness that alrighty exists, here is one more option to consider.

Spreadsheets!

So now you’re probably thinking, why in the world would someone use a spreadsheet of all things to manage their money instead of a software application or program?

Well…let’s cover three reasons why you should try using a spreadsheet instead.

Reason No. 1 – Customization

As far as software applications go, they pretty much work exactly the way they are supposed to work. That’s an awesome thing…until you want it to work a different way.

After all, everyone handles money differently. What’s more, we may even change the way we manage our money as time goes by.

With all of these potential changes and specific needs, it would be nice to have a tool that could adapt and change with you. This is where a spreadsheet can shine!

Spreadsheets contain great power, and one of those powers is the ability to morph into anything you need it to be.

So if you have a budget spreadsheet and you need to customize or change it, you absolutely can! Behold, the power of spreadsheets shines once again!

Reason No. 2 – Portability

Spreadsheets are extremely portable. You can store and take spreadsheets with you pretty much wherever you go as long as you have a computer. They take up so little space yet still pack such a powerful punch.

Identifying a small file

Let’s say that you have this amazing budget spreadsheet, and your friend David asks where he can get something similar. He also wants to be able to give it to his friends and family as well so that they can use it too!

Well all you have to do is send him a copy of your budget spreadsheet (you can even do this using email), and now he has the power to manage his money too!

Reason No. 3 – Personal Data Storage

If you use a spreadsheet to track and manage your finances, you are also creating your own personal financial database.

This is great for two reasons (and probably many more as well).

  1. You don’t have to share your data with anyone. No third party software will be “keeping your data safe.” It will all be strictly your own hands, and as Captain America once said, “Sometimes the safest hands are still our own.”
  2. You can gain great insight from all of your financial data over time. You can create graphs, reports, and anything else you need to keep your money organized and under complete control.

Whether you think managing your money is best done with software or a spreadsheet, maybe try to giving the whole spreadsheet thing a shot at least once.

You never know, it just might work for you.
