Insert and Use Checkboxes in Google Sheets

In this article, I show you how to insert and use checkboxes in Google Sheets.

Insert Checkboxes

Follow the steps below to add checkboxes to a cell or range of cells in Google Sheets.

Select the cell or range of cells.

Go to Insert Checkbox.

Google Sheets will insert the checkboxes into the selected cell or range of cells.

Change the Checkbox Color

Follow the steps below.

Select the cells containing checkboxes.

Click on the Text Color button.

Select the color you want.

What Does Checkboxes Evaluate To?

In Google Sheets, a checkbox represents one of two values.

  • TRUE
  • FALSE

An unchecked checkbox is equal to FALSE.

A checked checkbox is equal to TRUE.

Keep this in mind whenever you use checkboxes in functions or formulas.

Remove Checkboxes

Follow the steps below to remove checkboxes from a cell or range of cells in Google Sheets.

Select the cell or range of cells.

Press the Delete key on your keyboard.

Google Sheets will remove the checkboxes from the selected cell or range of cells.

  1. I LOVE using check boxes in Google Sheets, but I didn’t know you could change it’s color! Also, I guess I never realized that it evaluates to TRUE or FALSE, so you could use it in formulas. That’s gonna change so much for me for the better!
