How to Make Text Fit in a Cell

Have you ever faced the problem where you are typing a long piece of text into a cell, and then it spills into the next few cells?

How in the world do you fix this? How do you get all of the text to fit within the cell?

In this article, I’ll show you exactly how to get your text to fit within any cell. Plus, I will show you how to do it in both Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets.

Fit the Text in Excel

Let’s say you have a long string of text in cell B2.

To get the text to all fit within the cell, all you have to do is wrap the text. Start by selecting the cell containing the text.

Then, in the Excel ribbon, go to Home Wrap Text.

This will force all of the text to stay contained within the cell. You can then resize the cell to display the full-text value.

Fit the Text in Google Sheets

Let’s say you have a long string of text in cell B2.

To get the text to all fit within the cell, all you have to do is wrap the text. Start by selecting the cell containing the text.

Then, in the Google Sheets toolbar, click the Text Wrapping button, and select the Wrap option.

This will force all of the text to stay contained within the cell. You can then resize the cell to display the full-text value.

And that is the simplest and easiest way to make all your text fit within a single cell in Excel or Google Sheets.
