Five Spreadsheets in Five Minutes

Today, I’m going to give you five different spreadsheet ideas that you can put together in about five minutes if you really wanted to.

Here are five quick spreadsheets that can be put together in about five minutes to serve you for months or years on end.

No. 1 – A To Do List

Whatever it may be that you have to do, always work from a list. Don’t waste brain power on juggling the 50 different things you have to do.

Instead, write down your tasks in a spreadsheet, and use your brain to actually get the tasks done. This small piece of advice alone can increase your productivity more than you can imagine.

No. 2 – A Decision Matrix

We are faced with tough decisions every day. The good news is that for some of the toughest decisions, we don’t have to face them alone.

We’ve got the power of spreadsheets on our side!

Using your handy dandy spreadsheet, you can store and organize information to make the best possible decision in a given situation. You can even create a custom decision calculator to assist you in identifying the one choice that offers the most benefit overall.

Moreover, creating these types of spreadsheets doesn’t take long. A few minutes of spreadsheet work could potentially help you make a decision that will affect you long after your spreadsheet has been deleted.

No. 3 – A Spreadsheet Log

If you are getting things done, if you are putting in the work, if you are making progress, then be sure to keep track of it.

If you read 50 books in the last year, keep a record of those books to see what you read and how much you are reading.

If you went on 20 runs last week, record how long and how far you went.

When you make it a point to keep track of the things you accomplish, it gives you more motivation to go forward. What’s more, it will give you valuable insight into your actions day after day.

No. 4 – A Custom Clock

Time is difficult.

There are so many ways to track it, measure it, or manage it and yet, it just doesn’t seem to get any easier.

A good starting point is to try and get an accurate picture of what time you’ve got left. Whether you’re looking at the time remaining in the year or the time left until your next birthday, getting a bearing on how much is left will allow you to make the most of it.

The point of all this timely information is to demonstrate that keeping track of time is a good idea. And what better way to keep track of time than to use a spreadsheet?

Spreadsheets offer so many different time and date functions and formulas that allow you to build a simple spreadsheet in minutes to act as a brilliant custom clock.

In my post, “Build Your Days With a Spreadsheet”, I go into a lot more detail about how you can use a spreadsheet to measure and master your time.

No. 5 – A Gift or Wish List

Come Christmas time or your best friend’s birthday, there tends to be a lot of shopping and gift giving. This can be a whole lot of fun, but it can be stressful sometimes too.

What happens if your family asks you for a wish list? What if you need a place to track who is getting what for whom? How do you manage all of this gifting and receiving?

You can use a spreadsheet!

You can create an Excel workbook to keep track of your own list, or you can open a Google Sheets document and share it with everyone to track which gifts are taken. You can even create your own custom registry if you wanted.

The point is that you can utilize the power of spreadsheets to keep all of your gifts and wishes organized in one place.

I hope that you’ve enjoyed reading about a few of these good ideas! After all, good ideas are the seeds from which great actions can grow into wonderful results.
