Filter by Color in Google Sheets

Did you know that you can filter your data in Google Sheets based on the fill color of individual cells?

You most certainly can, and this article will show you how!

The Process

To filter your data by fill color in Google Sheets, follow the steps below.

  1. Select the data and create a filter.
  2. Click on the filter button.
  3. Select Filter by color > Fill Color > Select the color.

Step 1 – Select the Data and Create a Filter

Your very first step is to select the data you wish to apply a filter to.

With the data selected, go to Data Create a filter.

This will apply a green border around your data and put filter buttons in your column headers as well.

Step 2 – Click on the Filter Button

Your next step is to click the filter button over the column you wish to filter the data by.

In this example, the goal is to filter by the yellow cells under the SKU column. Therefore, the filter button next to SKU is selected.

Step 3 – Filter by the Fill Color

Once you have clicked on the filter button, go to Filter by color > Fill Color > Select the color.

You will now only see the data containing cells with a yellow fill color in the SKU column.

To remove the filter, right-click and select Remove filter.

And that is how you can filter by the fill color of cells within Google Sheets.
