Customize the Quick Access Toolbar

What is the Quick Access Toolbar

The Quick Access Toolbar is a collection of the most frequently used commands or actions in Microsoft Excel.

The Quick Access Toolbar is located either above or right below the Excel Ribbon.

The Quick Access Toolbar contains four commands by default. These are:

  • AutoSave (if enabled)
  • Save
  • Undo
  • Redo

The benefit of the Quick Access Toolbar is that you can customize it to fit your needs. You may add the commands you use the most frequently to the Quick Access Toolbar at any time.

Customize the Quick Access Toolbar

To add or remove a command, click the down arrow just to the right of the Quick Access Toolbar.

Select the command you want to add or remove from the Quick Access Toolbar.

You can also add any command you see in the Ribbon by right-clicking on the command and selecting “Add to Quick Access Toolbar.”

To remove the command that you just added, right-click on the command in the Quick Access Toolbar and select “Remove from Quick Access Toolbar.”

Add Commands Not in the Ribbon

To add a command to the Quick Access Toolbar that is not on the Ribbon:

Click the down arrow to the right of the Quick Access Toolbar.

Click on More Commands…

Under Choose commands from, select Commands Not in the Ribbon.

Select the command you want to add and click Add and then click Ok.

You should now see the new command on the Quick Access Toolbar.

  1. I didn’t know about the quick action toolbar! Quick question though, what if you can’t see the quick access tool bar? How would you go about adding it? (I believe I use Office 365 for reference)

    1. Hi there!
If you do not see the Quick Access Toolbar, try going to File > Options > Quick Access Toolbar.
You can then add commands from there and the Quick Access Toolbar should then be visible!
      I hope this helps!

      1. Oh! I see! It looks like there is a check box that says “Show Quick Access Toolbar” in the Options section! Thank you for your help!
